Saving for a Minor

A WUTMA account allows money or other property to be transferred to a minor and managed by an adult custodian on the minor’s behalf. The minor owns the funds, while the custodian manages the account and may use the funds for the benefit of the minor in accordance with Wisconsin’s Uniform Transfers to Minors Act.

Common questions about savings and money market accounts

What’s the difference between a savings account and a money market account?

Both earn interest, but money market accounts often offer higher rates and may include additional access options depending on the balance.

Are my funds locked in?

No - these accounts are designed to keep your money accessible without penalties for using it.

How are rates determined?

Rates may adjust based on market conditions, which allows your savings to stay competitive over time.

Is this better than a CD?

It depends on your goals. CDs may offer fixed rates for a set period, while savings and money market accounts provide flexibility.
