Our History

The Equitable Bank’s rich history spans over a century, rooted in the hard work and determination of a German immigrant who fled the devastation of the Chicago fire to seek new opportunities in Milwaukee. In 1878, Charles Pittelkow embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, founding an insurance business with a noble mission: to assist fellow immigrants in achieving their dreams of homeownership. Affectionately known as “Honest Uncle Charlie,” he became a trusted custodian of their savings, helping them bring loved ones to America and providing mortgage loans to make owning a home a reality.

Throughout the decades, Equitable remained steadfastly rooted in family values. In the mid-1920s, Charles’s son R.J. assumed the presidency, expanding lending operations and officially establishing The Equitable Savings Building and Loan Association on May 24, 1927. Leadership passed down through generations, with Robert C. Pittelkow succeeding his father as president in 1941, followed by Charles R. Pittelkow in 1982. Charles R. Pittelkow continues to serve as Emeritus Director on the Board.

Today, The Equitable Bank is led by Jennifer Provancher, a seasoned financial executive, as the role of Chairman of the Board and Tom Sattler, the President and Chief Executive Officer, steering the bank through its ongoing journey of growth and innovation.

"I have worked closely with Jenny for the entirety of her outstanding career here at The Equitable Bank,” remarked John Matter, former Chair and newly appointed Vice Chair of the Board of Directors. “I am happy to see Jenny assume this new role of leadership that will continue to complement the team that she has assembled and surrounded herself with. I look forward to supporting her ongoing leadership of this organization."

With over four decades of experience in the industry, Jenny has held various leadership roles at The Equitable Bank, including Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of the Board, President, Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Jenny is an active member of the community, having served on the board of the Wisconsin Club and as Treasurer of the Exchange Club of Milwaukee. She is also a long-time member and past President of the Milwaukee Chapter of the Financial Managers Society.

Partnering with Jenny is The Equitable Bank's President, Thomas Sattler. Tom brings over 28 years of banking experience to the table, having worked at three community banks with a focus on customer service, marketing, and public relations. Since joining The Equitable Bank in 2005 as Marketing Manager, Tom has made a significant impact on the bank's success. He is an active member of the Milwaukee Rotary Club and currently serves as the Chairperson for the Done in a Day committee. Tom is also involved with the Wisconsin Bankers Association (WBA), where he serves as the Chairperson of the Retail Committee and is the advocacy officer for the Bank. With his exceptional sales and marketing skills, Tom provides valuable insight that will help The Equitable Bank maintain its position as a high performing community bank in southeastern Wisconsin.

Under Tom Sattler's leadership, The Equitable Bank is poised to uphold its legacy of community engagement, superior service, and financial innovation for generations to come. As from the start, The Equitable Bank remains dedicated to serving the Milwaukee metropolitan area with integrity, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to our customers and communities.
