Our History: Rooted in Purpose Since 1927
The Equitable Bank’s story began long before our official founding. Its spirit took shape in the late 19th century, when a German immigrant named Charles “Honest Uncle Charlie” Pittelkow arrived in Milwaukee determined to help people build new lives.
In 1878, Charles Pittelkow embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, founding an insurance business with a noble mission: to assist fellow immigrants in achieving their dreams of homeownership. Trusted for his honesty, he safeguarded savings, helped families reunite, and made homeownership feel within reach—laying the early groundwork for what would eventually become The Equitable Bank.

A Milwaukee Legacy Officially Founded in 1927
On May 24, 1927, those values became the foundation of a new financial institution:
The Equitable Savings Building and Loan Association.
Built to serve hardworking families seeking stability and opportunity, the bank grew on three principles that still define us today:
- Fairness in every interaction
- Transparency in every decision
- A commitment to strengthening the Milwaukee community
Leadership passed through the Pittelkow family for decades, with R.J. Pittelkow in the 1920s, Robert C. Pittelkow in 1941, and Charles R. Pittelkow in 1982. Charles R. continues to serve as an Emeritus Director, maintaining a direct link to our earliest years.
Leadership Built on Service and Stability
Today, The Equitable Bank continues to honor its founding mission through leaders who believe deeply in the power of community banking.
Thomas Sattler — President & Chief Executive Officer
Tom serves as the bank’s day-to-day leader and the driving force behind our culture of service, accessibility, and personal relationships. Since joining in 2005, he has shaped a customer experience rooted in trust, education, and real connection. Tom’s involvement in civic organizations such as the Milwaukee Rotary Club and the Wisconsin Bankers Association underscores his commitment to advocacy and community leadership.
Jennifer Provancher — Chairman of the Board
With more than 40 years at The Equitable Bank, Jenny has held nearly every major leadership role, including CEO, Vice Chairman, President, COO, and CFO. Today she provides strategic oversight at the Board level, ensuring long-term strength and continuity. Her experience guides the bank’s direction while complementing Tom’s hands-on operational leadership.
Together, they reflect the balance that has defined The Equitable Bank for nearly a century:
steady governance and relationship-centered leadership.
